Grown in a lab. Graded like a mine diamond.

The same diamond, minus the mine.

Lucent & Co. sets IGI-certified lab-grown diamonds into fine jewelry you build yourself, stone by stone. Chemically identical to mined diamonds, independently graded, and priced so the stone can actually be the size you wanted.

Why Lab-Grown

Same carbon, different origin story

A lab-grown diamond isn't a substitute or a simulant — it's a diamond. The only difference is where the growing happened.

i.

Physically identical

Same crystal structure, same hardness, same fire and brilliance as a mined stone. Gemological labs grade lab-grown diamonds on the exact same 4Cs scale — there's no separate, softer standard.

ii.

Traceable from day one

A mined diamond's origin is often unclear by the time it reaches a counter. A lab-grown stone's growth process is fully documented — you can trace it to the exact reactor and grading report.

iii.

More carat for the budget

Because growing removes the extraction cost, the same grade and size typically costs 30–40% less — which usually means the difference between a 0.9 and a 1.4 carat centre stone.

How It's Grown

From carbon seed to cut stone

Most of our diamonds are grown using CVD — chemical vapour deposition — a process that replicates how diamonds form naturally, just on a shorter timeline.

Week 1

Seed placement

A thin slice of an existing diamond is placed in a sealed growth chamber as a seed crystal for the new stone to form around.

Weeks 2–5

Carbon growth

Carbon-rich gas is introduced and heated to roughly 800°C, causing carbon atoms to bond to the seed layer by layer until a rough diamond forms.

Week 6

Cutting & polishing

The rough stone is evaluated for the cut that will best express its clarity and carat, then hand-cut by the same lapidaries who cut mined stones.

Week 7

Independent grading

Every stone is sent to IGI for grading against the standard 4Cs before it's set — the report ships with your finished piece.

The honest comparison

We sell lab-grown exclusively, so here's the comparison as plainly as we can put it — including where mined still wins.

Certification

Every stone ships with paperwork, not just a promise

Independent certification is what separates a graded lab-grown diamond from an uncertified stone sold on trust alone. We only work with labs that grade lab-grown and mined diamonds on the same scale.

IGI ReportFull 4Cs grading plus a laser inscription number etched into the stone's girdle, matching the certificate.
Growth OriginDocumentation of which method — CVD or HPHT — and which facility grew your specific stone.
HallmarkBIS hallmarking on all gold and platinum settings, stamped with purity and jeweller identification.
Questions

Before you build a ring

What people ask most before their first lab-grown purchase.

Not by eye — both require specialised equipment to distinguish, which is exactly why every stone we sell ships with a laser inscription and matching certificate rather than relying on visual inspection alone.

Lab-grown diamond prices have fallen as production scaled, and resale markets are still maturing compared to mined stones. We're upfront that this is jewelry to wear and keep, not an investment vehicle.

Setting-only orders on in-stock stones ship in 5–7 business days. Fully custom builds with a specific cut and carat sourced to order typically take 3–4 weeks.

Yes — one free resizing within the first year, and re-setting a stone into a new piece is available at any point for the cost of the new setting alone.
